Time for Football!

The 2008 college football season gets underway Thursday.
A pair of Big 12 teams will play on the opening night. Baylor will host Wake Forest, and Iowa State will host South Dakota State.

Tigers Ready for 2008

The Mizzou football team held its final preseason scrimmage Thursday indoors at the
Devine Pavilion because of rain. The Tigers kick-off their regular season Saturday August 30th
in St. Louis against Illinois.

The Missouri Tiger football team will hold its final preseason scrimmage Thursday morning on Faurot Field. The Tigers begin their regular season August 30th in St. Louis against Illinois.
Mizzou is ranked 6th in the AP Poll, and Illinois is ranked 20th.

Askren in Beijing

Former Missouri Tiger wrestler Ben Askren competed in the Olympics in Beijing.
He won his first match by fall in the second period, then lost his second match on
points in two periods.

Carl's Winning Weekend

Carl Edwards celebrated his 29th birthday by winning two NASCAR races this weekend in Michgan. Edwards turned 29 Friday, then won the Nationwide series race Saturday, and the
Sprint Cup series race Sunday.

Christian Cantwell from Eldon will compete in the men's shot put at the Olympics in Beijing Thursday. Cantwell, a former Missouri Tiger, is regarded as one of the top three competitors in the shot put.

Coffman Injured

Missouri starting tight end Chase Coffman did not participate in Missouri's football scrimmage Tuesday morning at Faurot Field. Coffman has a broken finger, and is expected to be out for about a week. He should be able to play in the Tigers season opener against Illinois.

Phelps Wins Again

American swimmer Michael Phelps won his third gold medal of the Beijing games, with
a world record in the 200 meter freestyle.
Phelps has won a total of nine gold medals in his Olympic career, tying him with four others for most gold medals won.
